Product care

Thank you for choosing one of my handmade pieces. Whether it's jewelry or an interior object, they are designed to last and be loved for many years. To keep them looking beautiful over time, here are some simple tips for caring for the individual materials I use.

The best option for cleaning bronze, brass, silver, or gold is to use professional polishes or solutions designed for cleaning these materials. They work quickly and leave your jewelry shiny in seconds. You can find these solutions at your local drugstore. Silver cleaning solutions are also effective on brass—just make sure to follow the directions and avoid contact with gold-plated steel and wood.

Below you will find advice on how to properly store jewelry and objects and how to avoid damaging your beloved pieces.

Jewelry

Brass & steel jewelry

Pendants and main parts of some jewelry are made of brass (an alloy of copper and zinc), its natural process is to darken. Patina is part of it and has its charm, but if you prefer to have your jewelry shiny and without patina, try to follow these rules:

Polish your jewelry with a dry jewelry cleaning cloth each time you wear it. You can wash your jewelry with soap and warm water, but dry it thoroughly.

Moisture and body sweat can cause the material to darken and discolor your skin. The discoloration will not harm you, it can simply be washed off with soap and water.

Brass oxidation can always be cleaned by polishing it, you can use brass and silver jewelry cleaners that are commonly available at drugstores.

If you clean your jewelry regularly and store it in a dry place, its appearance will last. The advantage of brass over gold-plated jewelry is that its color will not wear off and the surface is relatively scratch-resistant. No matter how severe the oxidation is, you can always polish it to a nice shine using the right products.

Chains and other jewelry pieces are usually made of gold-plated stainless steel. Handle them with care, as the gold-plated surface can wear away over time if subjected to excessive friction.

Gold-plated stainless steel jewelry Gold-plated pieces also require a little care to ensure the gold plating lasts as long as possible.

Remove jewelry while showering and swimming. Avoid direct contact with perfumes, creams, or cleaning products. Store jewelry in a soft pouch or jewelry box to prevent scratches.

Silver jewelry

The silver from which Atelier Objectora jewelry is made is 925/1000 fineness.

Silver has a slight tendency to oxidize, it is its natural process and it is not a defect. Silver is also a relatively soft metal, so it is advisable to follow a few steps to keep the jewelry looking its best.

To keep your jewelry beautiful for many years, follow the advice below.

Avoid moisture: Remove your jewelry before swimming, showering, or other activities where it could come into contact with water, as prolonged exposure to moisture can cause damage or discoloration of the silver.

Storage : Store jewelry in a dry, closed place, ideally in a soft cloth bag or jewelry box, to prevent scratches and exposure to moisture.

Cleaning : Gently clean the jewelry with a soft cloth. For a more thorough cleaning, use a silver cleaning cloth.

Careful handling: Avoid wearing jewelry during activities that could damage it. Be careful with chains!

Silver has a tendency to oxidize, especially if it is left in an inappropriate place for a long time. Therefore, the best thing to do is to simply wear it :)

Jewelry is meant to be worn, it's meant to be a part of you, don't be afraid of scratches and oxidation, this guide is meant to help you preserve your jewelry, not limit you in wearing it - imperfections are a part of life and that's okay :)

Stones and pearls

A lot of my jewelry contains natural stones or pearls. Some stones, and especially pearls, are soft and can lose their shine and beauty over time if not handled and stored properly. Here's how to keep them beautiful.

You can wipe stones and pearls with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaning agents, especially with pearls, as they are porous and sensitive.

Store jewelry with pearls or softer stones such as opals, labradorites, and moonstones separately from other jewelry to avoid scratching the surface of the stone. Pearls are particularly delicate, so give them their own space.

Interior objects

How to care for wood:

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
To revive the wood surface, use a little wood oil and rub gently in the direction of the grain. Avoid soaking the wood in water. You can clean the bowls of the objects with a brush.

How to care for brass:

As with brass jewelry, it is best to clean brass with a product designed for this purpose. Make sure that the product does not come into contact with the wooden part of the object, wipe thoroughly after cleaning, dry and polish with a soft cloth. Brass parts are treated with an antioxidant layer during production, polish them only when oxidation is visible to prevent premature damage to the surface treatment.

Location of objects:

The location of objects in your home also has a significant impact on their appearance. Objects made of wood and brass do not belong in rooms with high humidity, such as the bathroom. Many people store their jewelry in the bathroom, but this is not suitable for either the jewelry or the objects, as high humidity has an adverse effect on wood, brass, silver and other materials.
